Why using oil on your face to cleanse makes sense in your beauty routine

Over the festive season I had a lot of conversations with people about Ginger Stone’s #1 Cleansing Oil and peoples confusion and surprise over the idea of cleansing with oils. Cleansing with an oil actually makes a lot of sense when you consider our skins make up and is definitely becoming very popular and ‘on trend’. When you look in our national press you can find a number of articles reviewing and discussing the merits of these.

Our face is made up of a number of layers, the epidermis is the outer layer of our skin and provides a waterproof layer to our skin and is where our sebaceous glands are. These sebaceous glands produce sebum, this oily substance is secreted onto the outer surface of our skin to prevent it from drying out.

So what does this have to do with what we put on our skin? Oils are a natural based ingredient, that have been used for hundreds of years to clean our skin. If you look on the back of many skin care products you will see the list of ingredients, many brands will contain water (aqua), some will have this as the main ingredient. When we cleanse our skin we need a product that can reach beneath our waterproof layer rather than sit on top of it. Cleansers that contain a large percentage of water cannot penetrate beneath the outer layer of skin, its waterproof. Although skin may look plumped after use it is temporary, as it is only plumping the outer layer.

You also need to consider that a lot of oil-free cleansers strip our skin of natural oils (the sebum), leaving it unbalanced and causing it to produce more oil to rebalance it. Excess production oils will lead to more problematic skin. Oil cleansers keep the skin’s natural pH balance, and prevents it from having a production overload

Our oil based cleanser has been developed with specific, hand picked oils that have been researched to understand the impact they will have on your skin, long term. Our oils are cold blended which means that these beautiful oils, that are heat sensitive, retain all their purity to support your skins health. This means that oils that are rich in anti-oxidants, nutrients, proteins, vitamins and minerals are applied directly to your skin. Our oil cleansers is great for all skin types, for oily skin they can help remove excess sebum, whilst for dry skin they help fight those dry patches. Our oil cleansers also gently help to dissolve dirt, grease and make up so you do not need to use harsher make-up removers, that can dry out or irritate more sensitive skin.

When massaged into the skin, our oils in the cleanser bind to surface impurities (pulling out dirt without clogging pores) and allow them to be comfortably rinsed away leaving your skin clean, soft and hydrated. We recommend that you use our exfoliating muslin cloth to rinse off our cleanser as this will naturally exfoliate your skin at the same time.

Using this method of cleansing will leave your skin radiant, looking healthy, glowing and firm and feeling soft to the touch.
